Maybe it is the medieval Pre-Raphaelite glow of the woman, or perhaps it is the innocent joy of the fairies, but for whatever reason, this 1908 painting by Edward Robert Hughes has always fascinated me. It reminds me of the bedtime stories that my dad used to tell my sisters and me. It reminds me of theatre in high school. And above all, it reminds me that even as an adult, my imagination can be ignited.
