Lovely Thing ~ Summer Rain

IMG_5832After several hot, summer days in the Midwest, our spring green grass begins to show signs of browning and crunches under bare feet. Flower petals look sad and pouty, and we tire of fighting with the garden hose and sprinkler.

A few dry days later, the weather becomes collective conversation in grocery store lines and neighborhood chats. We look up at the sky and understand the Natives’ pleading rain dance.

Eventually, distant nimbus clouds tease us with hope for relief. As they move closer, the air grows thick and humid in anticipation. Finally, like a heavy heart, dark and full, the clouds burst open with a welcomed cleansing and renewing hard, steady rain.

If you listen closely, you can hear the earth say, “Thank you.”

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain!”
